Tucepi is a small place located on the Makarska Riviera and is known for the longest beach (3km) with a beautiful promenade in the pine alley. They are first mentioned in the "Kreševo Charter" in 1434. The document is written in Croatian and Bosnian. Don't miss sightseeing in Tučepi and its surroundings, such as the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity (built-in 1703), the Church of Sv. Roka (built-in 1730), Church of St. Ante Padovanski (built-in 1898), Foundations of the Church of St. Vid, Kula Šarića, Kula Bušelića, Kula Lalića, and numerous baroque summer houses. In Tucepi there is a marina for fishing and tourist boats and yachts. During the summer in Tučepi, festivities are organized where you can enjoy food, drinks, and pleasant music at night. For those who want to have fun until the early morning hours, there is Makarska which is only 5 km away. Makarska is one of the most famous tourist destinations on the Croatian coast and is known for its rich tourist offer. Fans of sports and active holidays in Tučepi can enjoy football, tennis, volleyball, basketball, cycling, sailing, jet skiing, and many other activities. tučepi area was inhabited as early as Roman times. According to preserved old Illyrian documents in Albanian language, Tučepi means “village by the spring”. The first written mention of Tučepi dates back to 1434 in Kreševo Charter. This area was under Turkish rule from the 15th to 17th century. Venetians took over in the 18th century, but fights against the Turks continued. Several fortresses and towers were built in this period for defense from the Turks and their remains are still visible. It is an interesting fact that most of Tučepi population lived in villages above modern Tučepi only 50 years ago. After a disastrous earthquake in 1962 and difficult life in the past, most of the population moved to the coast and established a new town called Kraj, today known as Tučepi. Adriatic highway connected places beneath the Biokovo mountain and tourism developed. It still remains the most important branch of Tučepi economy. Tučepi is popular for its wonderful beach and sea, and we decided to explore ways to spend your time here in case of rain. GORNJI TUČEPI Gornji Tučepi is a village with a wonderful Church of St Ante Padovanski, built at the beginning of the 20th ct. A stone staircase leads to this church on a hill. This place, called Srida sela (village center) was the center of village life until 1962. Unfortunately, today many of the old stone houses are almost completely ruined. Not restoring them would be a shame since they could make a unique tourist attraction. We saw a wonderful private ethnographic collection in one of the houses, which is an attempt to preserve the local tradition from extinction. ting knitted bags are predecessors of modern backpacks. Not far from Gornji Tučepi there is a gateway to one of the most wonderful nature parks in Croatia – Biokovo. The highest peak of Biokovo Mountain, St Jure, is 1762 meters high. We recommend a hiking trip to Biokovo, but on a sunny day since this is a dangerous and unpredictable mountain. Temperatures can be only a couple of degrees above zero in the middle of summer, so make sure to bring appropriate clothes, equipment, and dry food and water supplies. You never know what can happen. Every summer Croatian Mountain Rescue Service saves many careless tourists who underestimate this mountain. Biokovo Nature Park- "Eyes, mind, and heart on what you can see to get to what you cannot see". That's what Dr Fr. Jure Radić, the most famous researcher of Biokovo, said about this mystical mountain located in the hinterland of the Makarska Riviera. Biokovo delights its visitors with its natural beauty, plant, and animal species, and since 2020 the main attraction is the Skywalk, a small promenade entirely built of glass. Bol – Zlatni rat (Golden horn). We’ll start with a beach-beauty – did you know that this year, this beach officially took the title of the most beautiful in the world? The connoisseurs behind the renowned Big 7 travel portal are delighted, as they say, not only by its marvelous shape, but also by the crystal clear seawater that takes on all shades of turquoise blue at a mere 10-20 metres! If you haven’t yet indulged in the charms of this beach – it’s high time to do so! Brela – Brela Rock This is another recognisable symbol of Croatian tourism. This emblematic stone is an integral part of the beautiful pebbled beach of Punta Rata – it is surrounded by numerous legends that will be gladly told by hospitable locals.
